Still on Hold - The Brick Saga

Well, we were meant to be back in business on Monday 16th Feb but unfortunately we have a problem!
An email came through on Friday to notify us that the 'malt' bricks we had been waiting for were ready and could be delivered on Monday.
However, an email showing a picture of those bricks next to the sample board of the 'malt' bricks made it clear that there was a considerable variation. They had an obvious pink tinge and our original choice was more brown in colour.
On Monday we called to say that we did not want the bricks.
The reply came back;
- we had the option of changing to one of three other bricks that were similar to the type we had chosen.
We had already rejected the offer of a different brick when the supplier ran out of the bricks we picked, in the first place.
Again, we explained we did not want to change.
It's now Wednesday and today we were given the option of again changing to a different brick [ different again from what has already been offered ] or to wait for the 'malt' bricks which were expected to be ready mid March!
That's the dilema, what to do?
Tomorrow I will go to see those bricks that have been offered as an alternative. It's way too hard to decide based on a computer image.
We've been "on hold" for a month already do we want to wait another month or do we settle for a different brick?

  1. Hi Relle,
    What a bugger!
Don't know exactly what I'd do in your situation, it must be every home builders worst nightmare.
I certainly wouldn't settle for the "pinkish" brick if you were after brown....but mid March is a long time to wait seeing as you've waited so long already.
Do any of the other choices on offer match in with your roof/render/gutters/ fascia etc??? There are a lot of colour choices to consider, aren't there??
I wish you luck, boy - what a dilemma!

  2. Yes K and T, you're not wrong. It's not just the brick colour, we have to make sure it matches with everything else.
We went to Austral today and know for sure that a computer image of a brick is nothing like seeing it for real. Picked a couple that were similar then went to see actual homes built with those bricks we'd seen.
Have decided on 'Urban-Chocolate' and hope this will be okay with all involved.
With a bit of luck things can get moving again in the coming week. Wishful thinking?

  3. Hi Relle,
Yes, fingers crossed for you that things get moving for you again soon.
I really like the Urban - Chocolate, we have gone for something similar ( Hawthorn. )
Hope you are happy with your new choice! :-)

  4. Hi K, they gave us the choice of cantebury or cotham in that range but we really liked hawthorn. You've made a good choice. Are you having render, if so what colour? Relle
