Should we be worried?

Our CSC called yesterday to check where our building variation for the ensuite basins was and to give us a few updates. Unfortunately, I did not get either the call to home or to my mobile. Upon listening to the message I thought, should we be worried?

She said, "our SS had moved on from the company and that we now have a new SS. He was currently getting up to speed with all the jobs and will contact us when he has done so".

I said "Oh sh*@ we are nearing the final stage of our build, what impact is this going to have on us"?

From reading other blogs it seems not uncommon to have at least one change of SS. The positive thing is, that it can often be a change for the better. We hadn't met our SS but he kept in fairly regular contact and seemed to be very much on top of things. Our CSC assures us that our new SS is experienced and very good but, isn't that what they say about all of them?

I guess we are about to find out. We had requested an inspection with the last SS, so now it will have to be with the new guy. I feel for him in a way because he comes in not really knowing or understanding the history of the build.
Oh well, time will tell, fingers crossed it will all turn out for the good

  1. Hi Relle,
No, I wouldn't be worried. Especially if you have never even met your previous SS.
From what I've read on other blogs, new SS's seem happy to fix things you are not too pleased with because they don't take it personally that you are not happy with previous work as they weren't actually responsible for it. Make any sense??? Probably not, lol!
We got a new CSC last week and at first I thought it was strange that they would do a re shuffle this late in the game. But seeing as CSC #1 had not called us once in 17 weeks and could barely string 10 words together in a weekly email, change is not such a bad thing!
Best wishes, hope he turns out OK for you,
    K.

  2. Hi Relle,
We are on our third SS and they have all been very reasonable. I wouldn't worry about it at all. In fact it's probably handy to have some fresh eyes - our latest SS has picked up on a couple of things that had been 'forgotten'. And he has been very enthusiastic as well - possibly trying to impress the new boss?? Gotta be a good thing! Just make sure you go through all your issues at your inspection so he knows where you stand.
    Good luck!

  3. I agree with Mandy, it's probably a good thing to have a fresh set of eyes. If he is experienced, then that can only be a good thing. I think it's easier to take a delay to get it right at this stage of the build rather than WBH who got a new SS practically at PCI and was delayed because the new SS was not happy with the standard of the house. Then it becomes hard because while you want a great house, you have also had your hope built up for PCI. Hope that makes sense.

    Fingers crossed for you.

    cheers

  4. Thanks K, Mandy and J that all makes perfect sense and does make me feel much better. You're all right, fresh eyes with no responsibility for whats already been done is probably a goood thing.
Hopefully we will get a call from our new SS very soon, then we will know for sure.

K, I didn't realise your CSC was so bad. Ours can be a bit abrupt but at least she calls everyweek and keeps us informed. I hope your new one is better because it is a very important role to liase between yourselves, the SS and the company.

Mandy, from what we have seen of the house there are no big issues [I hope]. Any we come across we will be sure to bring up with the new SS. Lets hope he acts on what we bring up!!

J, the great thing for us is that we are in no real hurry to get out of our rental. They can take all the time they need to make things right. Better to get it right now than try and do it later. Plus I'm a bit worried about all the organisation needed, ie, concreting, flooring, window coverings, etc once we get PCI.

    Relle.
